A sustainable urban park, schools actively involved on the front line, an international network of municipalities, and a shared digital platform.
The OASYS project – Network of Municipal Organization for Interregional Ecology and Sustainability – officially launched on April 27 in Lequile with its kick-off meeting.
The initiative is co-funded by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme 2021–2027.
Leading the project as Lead Partner is the Municipality of Lequile, coordinating an international partnership that includes the Municipality of Gambatesa in Italy, the Municipality of Rrgozhina in Albania, and NGO Papillon 1 in Montenegro.
Three countries, four partners, one shared goal: to build a transnational network of municipalities in the South Adriatic to promote energy efficiency and green technologies through shared tools, community engagement, and the creation of a sustainable urban park.
OASYS starts from a concrete challenge: small municipalities often have limited resources to tackle the ecological transition on their own. The project’s response is to use networking as a tool to amplify each partner’s capacity, facilitate access to European funding for green projects, and ensure continuous improvement.
The project will include the creation of a Sustainable Urban Park in Lequile as a pilot case: a green space designed according to rigorous environmental and social criteria, intended to offer citizens a place for well-being, recreation, and connection with nature.
The project also focuses on schools: local institutions will be actively involved in promoting a culture of sustainability among younger generations, turning students and families into key actors of change.
A collaborative web platform will support the exchange of best practices and the management of activities among all network partners.
“With this kick-off meeting, an idea begins to take shape. OASYS stems from the belief that sustainability is a right for every community. Through this project, we will create a sustainable urban park, involve our schools, and build a living transnational network.
Lequile shows that ecological transition starts from the ground up, from local territories,” said Mayor Vincenzo Carlà.
